Blithe Spirit - Noel Coward Play

"West End at its very best"
The Daily Telegraph

Blithe Spirit CLOSED 28th May 2005
is a comedy by Noel Coward. Directed by Thea Sharrock with designs by Simon Higlett, lighting by Peter Mumford and sound by Gareth Fry.Noel Coward's classic masterpiece of high spirits and ghostly goings-on became one of the longest running comedies in the history of British theatre. With Coward's trademark wit and sophisticated banter dovetailed with moments of high humour, this sparkling revival is a winning combination that has rarely been bettered.
Author and socialite Charles and his second wife Ruth decide to hold a séance as an after dinner entertainment. When the wildly eccentric medium Madame Arcati inadvertently conjures up the ghost of Charles' deceased first wife who wants her husband back by fair means or foul, hilarious confusion ensues...

Theatre Review

Blithe Spirit - Blithe Spirit strikes me as being one of Coward's three indisputable comic masterpieces, and it's a real pleasure to welcome Thea Sharrock's outstanding revival, first seen in Bath this summer, to the Savoy, a theatre whose gleaming elegance suits the piece to perfection... The play's froideur is also warmed by the presence of Penelope Keith, who gives a peach of a performance as the spiritualist medium Madame Arcati... With an opulent design by Simon Higlett that springs all manner of surprises at the end, this classy, high-definition revival displays the West End at its very best." The Daily Telegraph

The acting from every member of the cast is impeccable, and in these days of Friends Reunited and the lure of past relationships over the dull reality of the present, this Blithe Spirit is very much a play for today.
