Blood Brothers - Blood is still flowing after a 20-year run - Willy Russell's award-winning West End musical Blood Brothers - set in Liverpool, about boy twins broken up at birth .  Mrs. Johnstone, the good-hearted but impoverished single mum who works as cleaner and is persuaded to give one of her new-born twins to her employer, childless well-to-do Mrs Lyons. This secret adoption sets in motion the saga of the two boys, neatly groomed Eddie and scruffy, underprivileged Mickey. They chance upon one another in childhood and swear to an undying friendship. It ends tragically, however, as they're pulled apart by class divisions in adult life and caught up in a love triangle.

What's New

Blood Brothers is Willy Russells congenial long-running melodrama about two brothers separated at birth and displaced to separate ends of the social ladder is crammed with scouse attitude and catchy toe-tapping songs.

Theatre Review

Yes, it is true that Blood Brothers pushes the discrepancy between the twins' life chances to extremes and is not above loading the dice musically either (the middle class woman, interestingly, gets barely a song). But its heart is in the right place - how many musicals present a social argument of any kind?  For that alone I raise my glass
The Independent

Blood Brothers is still one of the best pieces of popular theatre around. The Times

Every performance is greeted with a standing ovation. Like Shakespeare's Hermia I am amazed and know not what to say.
