Footloose

 Footloose Theatre Closed October 2006

Footloose tells the story of city boy Ren who has to move to a rural backwater in America where dancing is banned. All hell breaks out as Ren breaks loose and soon has the whole town on its feet.

Featuring a dynamic young cast, this fast-paced show is not only packed full of amazing dance but serves up some classic 80's hits, including Holding Out For a Hero, Almost Paradise, Let's Hear It For The Boy and of course the unforgettable title track Footloose.
...A high-octane storm, with impressively energetic routines coming hot on each other's high heels.

What's New

Footloose - Closed October 2006 is based on the 1980's riveting screen sensation starring Kevin Bacon, which took the world by storm with its youthful spirit, dazzling dance and and electryfing soundtrack.

Theatre Review

Footloose As for passion - well, this is Romeo and Juliet-lite. We're never in any doubt that Derek Hough's fetchingly fresh-faced Ren will secure the preacher's daughter, Ariel (a matchingly blonde and squeaky clean Lorna Want) against pater's wishes. All we're required to do is sit back and let the froth and nonsense of successive waves of would-be raunchy rock and roll wash over us... The supporting cast generate enough energy in their gymnastic routines and generic line-dances to power, well, a small Midwestern town.
The Daily Telegraph

It serves up thunderous renditions of bombastic hit songs from the film's soundtrack, but its tone veers from the end-of-term energy of a school play to the hiss and boo of pantomime and hen-night hysteria... The director choreographer Karen Bruce's staging is frenetic but uninspired. There are hoe-downs and balletic athleticism, and much embarrassingly unsexy groin-grinding... Derek Hough is much too white-bread as Ren, the role that made Kevin Bacon famous. He is, though, a fine singer and dancer, and as Ariel, Lorna Want makes him a pretty partner.
