Hedda Gabbler

Hedda Gabbler Theatre tickets from London Ticket Web

Hedda Gabbler Arriving home after an extended honeymoon Hedda Gabler struggles with an existence that is, for her, devoid of excitement and enchantment. Filled with a passion for life that cannot be confined by her marriage or 'perfect home', Hedda strives to find a way to fulfil her desires by manipulating those around her. Not the least bit interested in gaining her audience’s sympathy, Marvel’s Hedda is all too aware that she’s sold herself short for a marriage of seeming convenience. Lounging throughout the show in the same negligee, Marvel makes palpable Hedda’s thwarted hunger for life. Here, the seething discontent descends upon Hedda much like depression. When the force of such emotions threaten to compromise Hedda’s composure, she retreats into shadows. And when she re-emerges smiling, with a new purpose, she chills the blood. The smile, however beautiful, is never quite at home on a human face—it’s that of a predator.
