Movin' Out

 Movin Out Closed:22 May 2006
- London Ticket Web

Movin' Out is the Tony Award-winning Broadway blockbuster featuring 24 unforgettable Billy Joel classics and Twyla Tharp's explosive choreography. It is a truly amazing dance show meets rock concert combination that defies description.
The spotlight is shared between sensational dancers, a mesmerizing 10-piece band, and one dynamic vocalist performing on a raised platform above the stage.
Movin' Out can feel like a rock concert unfolding in the middle of a high energy ballet and modern dance show. Tharp's breath-taking choreography tells the story of a group of lifelong friends as they come of age in the Vietnam era from the '60s through to the '80s. Don't miss the show that critics hail as revolutionizing musical theatre as we know it.

What's New

Movin Out Closed:22 May 2006 is a Dance musical conceived and directed by Twyla Tharp with songs by Billy Joel.

Theatre Review

Movin Out If you only see one musical this spring, make it Movin' Out... Billy Joel grew up in the Sixties in a blue-collar New York suburb and his best songs document the emotional landscape of his time and place... Tharp has taken the heartbeat of his songs about these ordinary kids and told their lives... The dancing from a multi-national cast is spectacular... Above the stage is Fame Academy's Fox, singing every number as the Piano Man himself and a genuine star. Movin' Out is a show for everybody. I defy you not to have a wonderful evening.
The Daily Express

I was amazed to discover that I knew most of the 20-plus songs included here without ever quite realizing that I did. When combined with Twyla Tharp's often thrilling choreography, this is a show that really packs a punch. For as well as being a great rock musical, this is also a superb dance spectacular, and one that tells a story rather than just offering a succession of big choreographic routines. Anyone with a passion for popular culture at its electrifying best will have an absolute blast. The Daily Telegraph

choreography is light years beyond the Broadway average. The dancing too  spectacular. you barely notice that no dialogue has been spoken.
The Guardian

Tharp's agenda is dance, and the hook is her visceral high-octane choreography... For two hours, with barely a pause for breath, she whips up a storm of movement fuelled by demon energy, dazzling athleticism and raw sex. When it comes to putting classy and raunchy into the same body there is no one to touch her. It's the best show dancing in town.
