| Resurrection Blues | Resurrection Blues Theatre tickets from London Ticket Web | Resurrection Blues Resurrection Blues is set in an unnamed Latin American country, where a young, messiah-like revolutionary is captured by the presiding military dictator. General Felix Barriaux seizes the opportunity to improve the country's finances by having the revolutionary executed and selling the television rights. He arranges a spectacular crucifixion, "once its televised there'll be tour buses bumper to bumper across the Andes" he says. Humorous, poetic and thought-provoking, Resurrection Blues brilliantly satirises misguided global politics and the predatory nature of a media-saturated culture. Resurrection Blues was at first draft stage, unseen by anyone, when bids were submitted to broadcast the execution of the Oklahoma bomber Timothy McVeigh, on the internet. Although the the play was first performed in 2002 at the Guthrie Theatre in Minneapolis, USA, it is known that Miller was working on rewrites up to a month before his death. |
